Simple Past Tense

       Simple Past Tense  merupakan tense yang menceritakan suatu kejadian yang terjadi pada masa  lampau. Adapun adverbs yang sering digunakan dalam membuat kalimat Simple Past Tense ini adalah yesterday, last ….. (week), a week ago, this morning, last night, yerterday morning, yesterweek, yestermonth, yesteryear, etc.

      Sekarang Kita masuk ke pembahasan mengenai Pola yang digunakan dalam Simple Past Tense :

1. Positive Pattern ( Pola Positif )

S + Verb 2 ……………………………….. Yesterday

Contohnya :

* John saw a crocodile in the river yesterday

* We studied English here last week

* They played football in the field yesteryear

2. Negative Pattern ( Pola Negatif )

S + didin’t + Verb 1 ………………………………… Yesterday

Contohnya :

* John didn’t see a crocodile in the river yesterday

* We didn’t studied here last week

* They didn’t play football in the field yesterday

3. The Interrogative Pattern (Pola Kalimat Tanya )

Did + S + Verb 1 …………………………….. Yesterday ?

Contohnya :

* Did john see a crocodile in the river yesterday ? Yes, he did / No, he didn’t

* Did you study here last week ? Yes, we did / No, we didn’t

* Did they play football in the field yesteryear ? Yes, they did / No, they didn’t

4. The Question-Word Pattern ( Pola kalimat tanya denga WH Question )

QW + Verb 2 ………………………………….. yesterday ? S + did

QW + did + S + Verb 1 ………………………………….. yesterday ?

Contohnya :

* What did he do in that place yesterday ?

* Why did you make a mistake with your teacher ? 

* Who saw a crocodile in the river yesterday ? John did

* What grew in the rice-field last year ? A coconut tree did
